Life Update / Major Announcement
DOING A HARD RESET ON 2020.
COVID impacted us in so many ways and this chapter of our lives looks vastly different than we ever anticipated. We have made the tough decision to end our NYC adventure a lot sooner than planned. We are very happy to share that we’re moving to Rock Hill, South Carolina! (Greater Charlotte, NC area just over the state line)
Darrell and I stumbled upon this charming town long ago and we absolutely fell in love with the area. It is such a great place to settle down and we are so grateful God provided a way for us to make the leap. Super thankful for remote work and a few other things in the pipeline!
I don't really have to say it because I know EVERYONE is feeling this in some form this year, but wow... 2020 is a DOOZY!
It doesn't seem fair to categorize the whole year as "tough" or "bad" or "challenging" although at times, it’s been all of those things for us. But I think it is fair to say 2020 is a year of growth, stretching, hiccups and rerouting.
We're just past the half-way point / half-time show / mid-point WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT, for the calendar year and while we really thought things would be back to "normal" or at least not so volatile by now, that's apparently not going to be the case!
Darrell and I had a super optimistic, exciting outlook on NYC back in January, and really I guess up until a couple of months ago. My, how things have changed. We are still super optimistic about the future, but we've definitely had to take a hard look at our current geographic location, the state of the world and how that all relates to our life goals and priorities. We very seriously considered all of those things when making the decision to move to NYC, but COVID shed a light on so much, and I know that many can relate to that – it’s caused so many people everywhere to decide to change major things in their lives and that has definitely been the case for us.
The process of moving isn't enticing but the new address certainly is! We have had a soft spot in our hearts for South Carolina for a long time and we are over the moon excited to soon call it home!
It's bittersweet to be leaving NYC so soon, especially when we've only gotten a taste of what life is like here due to coronavirus restrictions, but I honestly had no idea just how excited I would be to know I will soon DRIVE A CAR and GO TO WALMART! (Also, can we talk about how amazing it is that my car never sold in KY and we will be able to pick it up from my family en route to SC?? God is SO GOOD!)
Y'all. I. CANNOT. WAIT!
We don't regret this short-lived adventure and there are certainly things we will miss about city life, along with things we won't miss (the smells, the rodents, the cost of everything).
In many ways, it is the perfect time to leave. There's a lot of job turnover happening in many industries and certainly for the fields of interest for Darrell and I. Summer is just a great time to make a big move and it worked out that we were able to end our lease early in NYC and explore other places.
There’s certainly a part of me that wishes things had turned out differently. We obviously both really wanted to move here and we made so many major life changes in order to make that move happen. So don’t get me wrong when I say how happy I am to leave, because if anything living here made me love NYC even more than ever before and we are still “disappointed” to a certain degree, but more than that it opened our eyes to what we truly want in life and that means this chapter is coming to a close.
